Sophie Gaur lives in Melbourne, Australia after having moved from New Delhi in 2003. In 2007 she set up an independent studio, Sophie Gaur Studio, a continuation of her studio in Delhi where she works on a range of projects designing books, illustrating, book-binding, creating pin-hole cameras and crafting bespoke objects.

Having graduated from The National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad, India in 1993, Sophie’s professional work in Delhi involved working on Museums, designing furniture and later working with Non Government Organizations like the Barefoot College, Tilonia, The Hunger Project, the Crafts Council of India and PRADAN, working both with craft groups designing objects, as well as graphic and exhibition design extensively. Since coming to Australia she has worked with John Leonard, in setting up the John Leonard Press where she continues to work designing books on poetry as well actively teaching as studies, communications and studio courses at the Industrial design department at RMIT since 2005.

Sophie has trained in Indian vocal classical music for many years and her interest in music and making drives the Around~Sound Studio.
