Shawn is a trained industrial designer and postgraduate student with extensive professional and academic experience in user-centered design and qualitative research methods in human-technology interaction.

He has a long history of cooking and exploring new food experiences, including moonlighting as a part-time food writer for Broadsheet and The Age. In 2011, he spent a three-month sabbatical in the kitchen of one of Melbourne’s top restaurants, Cumulus Inc. This experience contributed to the foundation of Urban Commons and fostered the desire to apply design thinking to the many ways food shapes our cities and local communities.

He is also completing a Masters degree in the Department of Computing and Information Systems, University of Melbourne.
